Workout Songs of the Week: Kid Cudi, Ciara, & J-Cole

April 19th, 2010 No comments

This week I have a couple of gems in store, at least according to my taste. With busy season in my rear view mirror, I can now focus on important stuff, like getting my body fat below 12% and sculpting my body even more. In order to do that I’m going to need some workout music. Here are a few tracks, I picked up in the past week that will be in the iPod rotation

Kid Cudi – ” I Do My Thing” feat Snoop Dogg.  I am a big Cudi, fan and I’ve been one pre “Night & Day” his style of hip hop is unique, as he bares his soul and takes you through the pains and struggles of his life. This track is a just a feel good get high, get drunk song.

Note: Jim Gets Slim does not advocate illegal drug use.

Ciara- “Ride the Beat” feat. Ludacris.

I can’t explain my affinity for brainless no talent R&B/Pop songs by artists who have little to no vocal ability.  However, if I were going to pick my favorite such artist it would be Ciara. I think my love affair for her happened back when she  the two singles off her album before last “Promise” and “Like a Boy”. I don’ know what it is but I love athletic girls  and Ciara definitely takes  care of her self (Visual evidence below). Ludacris also chips in with a verse and kills it as per the usual.

Perfection....

Perfection....

J. Cole – “We On”

This song was supposed to be on the DJ Khaled album “Victory”. I don’t know why it was dropped, that CD will most likely be used as a coaster before it enters my CD Player.

I am not sure there is  rapper who comes as hard and as consistent as J. Cole does on every song.  His flow and aggression is workman-like. If he keeps up at this rate he will be one of the all time greats. I have yet to hear a song from him I did not like.  I almost want him to come weak on a verse or on a song, so I can find something to dislike. However, he disappoints every time. I guess I’ll just sit back and enjoy greatness unfold before my eyes.

Side Note as of right now: J. Cole>>>Cudi>>>Jay-Z

I am upping my workout intensity and as such I need new music in the iPod. First off I would like to say if you don’t have the J. Cole- The Warmup  and the new Lupe Fiasco – State of the Enemy: A Love Story  mixtape you’re missing out on a good piece of hip-hop. Besides that here are some songs I’ve been bumping lately. Almost forgot to mention pick up the Phil Ade mixtape “Starting on J.V.” Its been out for a while but I slept on it hard.

In My Bag – Usher feat. T.I.

I’m a big Usher fan. I still bump confessions and this song is sort of how I’m feeling at this moment in life right now. I can’t lose basically.

Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart – Alicia Keys

I’m pretty sure Alicia Keys and I were meant to be together. I would give a limb for her without hesitation. I mean if Swizz Beatz could pull I figure I got a decent chance. Let me love you Alicia!

Beast – Wale produced by 9th Wonder.

Why this song didn’t make the album I don’t know. It’s still a very good album but this song definitely would have been a solid addition to the album.

Sex Therapy- Robin Thicke

Robin is ok, I only put this up because I’m in love with his wife Paula Patton.

I’ve been on a Dru Hill tip lately I don’t know why. Probably my favorite group of the mid to late 90′s. Songs like These Are The Times, Promise, Sleeping In My Bed, I Should Be, Never Make A Promise, You Are Everything, are all songs that still bump. Now that I think about it Dru Hill was probably the last super successful R&B Boy group, B2K doesnt count.

You Are Everything (Remix)

These Are The Times (One of my favorites by far)

Never Make A Promise

The girl in this video can’t remember her name is actually dead now.

I Should Be

Sisquo makes me want to make Pro Jerseys come back…

In My Bed

I don’t know a man who would be disappointed by this.
