Workout Songs of the Week: Kid Cudi, Ciara, & J-Cole

April 19th, 2010 No comments

This week I have a couple of gems in store, at least according to my taste. With busy season in my rear view mirror, I can now focus on important stuff, like getting my body fat below 12% and sculpting my body even more. In order to do that I’m going to need some workout music. Here are a few tracks, I picked up in the past week that will be in the iPod rotation

Kid Cudi – ” I Do My Thing” feat Snoop Dogg.  I am a big Cudi, fan and I’ve been one pre “Night & Day” his style of hip hop is unique, as he bares his soul and takes you through the pains and struggles of his life. This track is a just a feel good get high, get drunk song.

Note: Jim Gets Slim does not advocate illegal drug use.

Ciara- “Ride the Beat” feat. Ludacris.

I can’t explain my affinity for brainless no talent R&B/Pop songs by artists who have little to no vocal ability.  However, if I were going to pick my favorite such artist it would be Ciara. I think my love affair for her happened back when she  the two singles off her album before last “Promise” and “Like a Boy”. I don’ know what it is but I love athletic girls  and Ciara definitely takes  care of her self (Visual evidence below). Ludacris also chips in with a verse and kills it as per the usual.

Perfection....

Perfection....

J. Cole – “We On”

This song was supposed to be on the DJ Khaled album “Victory”. I don’t know why it was dropped, that CD will most likely be used as a coaster before it enters my CD Player.

I am not sure there is  rapper who comes as hard and as consistent as J. Cole does on every song.  His flow and aggression is workman-like. If he keeps up at this rate he will be one of the all time greats. I have yet to hear a song from him I did not like.  I almost want him to come weak on a verse or on a song, so I can find something to dislike. However, he disappoints every time. I guess I’ll just sit back and enjoy greatness unfold before my eyes.

Side Note as of right now: J. Cole>>>Cudi>>>Jay-Z

Workout Songs of the Week: DJ Khaled & Joell Ortiz

March 29th, 2010 No comments

I havent had one of these in a while. There really isnt a lot of good stuff out right now. Though I do like the new Fabolous mixtape and I’ll do a spotlight on that later.

All I Do Is Win by DJ Khaled feat. T-Pain, Ludacris, Rick Ross, and Snoop Dogg

I don’t really like DJ Khaled, but he does make bangers, and “All I Do is Win” the latest single from his most recent album Victory is no excpetion. Khaled gets help from Ludacris, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg and T-Pain on this track. T-Pain is the 21st century Nate Dogg and Ludacris is one of those guys who I doesnt feel gets enough props for his lyrical charisma. Rick Ross drops a nice verse about nothing as usual, and at this point Snoop Dogg is just collecting checks. He hasnt had a hot verse since the Clinton administration. None the less, this song is a great pump it up song and gets me hyped to lift nowadays.

“Call Me” by Joell Ortiz feat. Novell

Joell Ortiz is pretty much what Fat Joe would be like if he was good I first heard about him like a year or two ago, and he has done nothing but impress him. This is his latest single, and I must say it reminds me of what Hip-Hop used to be, a good story over a dope beat.
