Exercise Log 11.13.10

Played about 6 hours of basketball. One of my favorite days, I got to run point gaurd, went like 7-2 over those hours. I have a ridiculous ability to get into the lane and find the open man and finish strong at the rim with the floater. I didnt even score that much, In one game I had like 10 assists. It was just so much fun to play that way. Needless to say I played with white folks.

Had the opportunity to play ball with some Maryland football players. Got dunked on once or twice, maybe it was three times. Regardless, we lost that game 13-11 we should have won. i missed a wide open layup, but had a nice steal, open court crossover, and finished at the basket. Played 3 more games, won the next one, had a couple of drives to the basket. Lifting really affects my jumper, there has to be a way to remeedy that, However I am getting to the hole more. Rebounded pretty well, this is probably the hardest I’ve played in a while. Great cardio workout

Played 3 games of ball, won 2 games lost the last one. Didn’t really do anything offensively had  maybe 4 points in all three games, 2 trey bombs and a couple of drives. Lifting definitely throws of my shot. Ever since I started lifting more consistently in the past few week, my shot has been all types of off.  I did have 2 blocks int he last game and boarded pretty well. Overall. Definitely, a good workout, I was spent afterwards.

Side Note: If I knew what I know now and I was back in college. Wilt Chamberlain would be proud…

Went to the gym and probably played the best games I have played in a while. I don’t think its a coincidence that my jumper has improves since I have gone to a lighter lifting routine. In the first game. We lost 16-15. But I had 7 points including 4-4 from 3 point land, and a couple of floaters in the lane.  A few steals, but  my defense was overall atrocious. In the second game I had 3 points, a couple of boards and like 5 assists. Had a nice drive to the basket and strong finish. Last game I had 4 points 4 boards and 3 steals. Hopefully, I can build on this and get more confidence in my jumper.

I played a game of 21 before the 3 5 on 5 games and I hit a couple of shots I haven’t hit since Boys and Girls Club and 13-U AAU.  Including the fadeaway and the hesitation drive and finish with the left hand.

I wore my Jordan XII Taxi’s -my favorite hooping shoes ever.

Equipment Check: Nike Air Flightposite II LE (My feet have shrunk!!)

I was a sophomore in high school, and these were the official “Back to School Shoes”. I remember begging my parents to get them and I even considered giving up my reproductive organs if needed to obtain these shoes. I remember my mom telling me, “I love you to much to buy you those shoes, it’s not that I can’t afford them but paying $200for a pair of shoes is not wise.” and I would reply but “Everyone else is going to have them” and to that she would reply “How many of those kids are on free or reduced lunch?”

You would think that growing up as the only son of  two parents who were  medical professionals would mean I got whatever I wanted. However, my parents are Nigerian so I might as well have been born into poverty. I did eventually get those shoes, but I had to hustle like 3 illegal immigrants to get them.

Fast forward to this past Saturday. I was getting a manicure and pedicure with my sisters, when I decided to stroll down to the  DTLR (Downtown Locker Room) and to my surprise I saw that they had re-released these shoes.  They were out of my budget at $118 dollars but for a chance to recapture some of my youth I made an impulse buy.  I may still return them but for now they sure are nice to look at. Funny thing to note, back in high school, when I was about 260-275 lbs I wore these in a size 13, the pair i bought on Saturday was an 11.5. You really do lose weight all over.
