Equipment Check: Nike Air Flightposite II LE (My feet have shrunk!!)

April 19th, 2010 No comments

I was a sophomore in high school, and these were the official “Back to School Shoes”. I remember begging my parents to get them and I even considered giving up my reproductive organs if needed to obtain these shoes. I remember my mom telling me, “I love you to much to buy you those shoes, it’s not that I can’t afford them but paying $200for a pair of shoes is not wise.” and I would reply but “Everyone else is going to have them” and to that she would reply “How many of those kids are on free or reduced lunch?”

You would think that growing up as the only son of  two parents who were  medical professionals would mean I got whatever I wanted. However, my parents are Nigerian so I might as well have been born into poverty. I did eventually get those shoes, but I had to hustle like 3 illegal immigrants to get them.

Fast forward to this past Saturday. I was getting a manicure and pedicure with my sisters, when I decided to stroll down to the  DTLR (Downtown Locker Room) and to my surprise I saw that they had re-released these shoes.  They were out of my budget at $118 dollars but for a chance to recapture some of my youth I made an impulse buy.  I may still return them but for now they sure are nice to look at. Funny thing to note, back in high school, when I was about 260-275 lbs I wore these in a size 13, the pair i bought on Saturday was an 11.5. You really do lose weight all over.

Equipment Check: Nike Air Edge Weight Trainer ’09

Earlier this week I was in Philadelphia and on my way back I stopped by the Nike Outlet in Perryville. Those of you who know me personally, know that at one point if there was a hot Nike release or limited edition shoe, I had it, and probably multiple pairs. However, I’ve grown out of that phase and the thought of spending more than $80 on a sneaker now petrifies me. I guess you do get wiser with age, or maybe its just cheap.

I had been looking for a pair of cross-training shoes, as my basketball shoes weren’t cutting it when it came to treadmill running and some of the  more intensive stuff I plan to do this summer. I spent about 20 minutes in the store before I came across a pair of the Nike Air Edge Trainer 09′s. I googled reviews on the shoes on my blackberry, and after reading a couple of reviews I purchased them. They were just what I was looking for, light weight, comfortable, air sole, and responsive and at $59.99 they were right in my budget.

Some of the key features the shoe offers are:

  • A mesh upper for breathability,
  • Strategically placed synthetic overlays for lightweight support,
  • External gilly lacing system for a secure fit,
  • Encapsulated full-length Air sole unit for cushioning.

I’m a big  believer in having the right equipment when it  comes to working out, and a good pair of sneakers is a vital part of any workout regime, as most workouts start with your feet. I’ve worn them twice this weekend, and they have performed marvelously.A pair of these are probably scarce however the 2010 model is out, with similar reviews and can be found at the following retailers
